Feb 1 2016 Monday

We had to move batteries (again) to under our desk to charge. He was stealing and destryoing. He stole batteries from the remote.

Brett just decided to use his phone instead. Smart fucker.

The peeing in things - like bowls - continues - peeing on his floors etc

He is getting better in the kitchen in terms of using things appropriately while being watched.
Is learning to get a bowl out of pantry instead of spilling and running like a thief.

He wants to write, but eats and destroys writing instruments of all kinds: pens, pencils, chalk, crayons

report on D Jan 2016 (pre IEP)

Duncan has been much more stable lately,

We finally sleep regularly.

He seems healthy and not volatile.

He won't wipe himself and since we had to deal with dingleberries, he refuses to be wiped

His skin is clearing; my God it was pretty bad!

One thing that I like alot is how he now, will take action for himself in response to a question or to communicate.

Like in the kitchen, he will put away what he doesn't want, which more and more becomes him doing for himself under supervision.

I have not been good about homework, but the last couple of days we got back on track.

He passed a sight exam, which last year they were not even able to administer.

He weighed 111 3/4 last year and was 111 1/2 this year. His BMI is on the lower end of normal.

He is a 1/2 inch taller than last year, at 68"

This week JJ, Duncan and I pulled into a grocery store parking lot. We opened the van door and there was Duncan standing in the parking lot with one brown and one black women's kitten heeled shoes, with his white athletic socks still on ---- and ----- as typical, for him ------ no glimmer of humor, no change of expression, just a standing there waiting for us to go into the store.

Also, attacked new packages of markers yesterday. Gave him one of his own and he scribbled all over himself and his belongings and then chewed it apart and threw it on the ground next to his bed, with the spilled fritos, the dumped legos, and flung blankets.

He stole a tray from the kitchen - used once - and took it to his room. Quietly, he bent it, worked off one handle and peed in it.

Last night, Malcolm watched a show in my room with me. We were on my bed. Duncan was on his, but eventually came over, laid in the opposite direction, rolled up next to me and fell asleep.

Monday, March 3, 2014

I feel like I lost an hour this morning.

Duncan's bus didn't get here till 10 after 9, which is 45 minutes later than usual.

Unstructured and unpredictable.

I couldn't "do" anything.

And some things, I complete in order, rather than at specific times.

My schedule changes every semester and right now, it kinda sucks. I leave just when everyone gets home, gets busy and need to be driven somewhere.

I "should" go out earlier on mondays and wednesdays.  I know my childless colleagues often complain about.

But, the inconceivable reality is - and I mean this quite literally - there is no way that any person "on Duncan Duty" can do anything else. Not make calls. Not do dishes. Not garden and - most especially - nothing that requires quiet and patience.

No deskwork. No hobbies. No relaxation.

So, despite it being well past the time that I need to start getting dressed  - as the clock, and most of the civilized world measure priorities - I can not.  I can not do anything, except follow him around.

Let's see what I can remember of this morning.  I will work my way backwards.

The number for bus dispatch is no longer on my phone, since an "upgrade" calamity this summer.

So, I search for it.

They have been calling Brett's cell phone.

I take this moment to update our new home phone and ask that they use my phone for contact.

Okay, he says. But I have to call the district secretary and update that info there.

This is the same b.s. with cancelling pick up.

Fine.

In the meantime, Duncan is outside.

[damn i thought the door was locked; i hope he isn't too wet; ok, i hope at least his shoes are dry]

I am lucky. He is dry.

But the bus still hasn't come and even though I locked the door to the outside, he found a balloon, which he has filled with water and is adding to the already flooded room.

He must have run down to the back door when I chased him out of the bathroom, where he eats deoderant, vicks vapo-rub, puts razors in his mouth and fills the wood drawers with water.

Now he is gone and I have to catch up, somehow.

If I'd known the bus would be late, we might have actually done something.

Cuz homework sucks.

He did get to scribble with his dry erase marker, which he did not chew.

I want to encourage his interest in music.

Duncan Diary

Last night, Wednesday night, while Daddy was at computer programming with Malcolm, I pulled the thermostat off the wall.  Several times.

Now one of the batteries is _______________________

I saw the black garbage bags that mom moved from under the small sink to the pantry.

After I get somebody to open the pantry, I stand there a long time, not making a decision about what food or drink or straw to grab, instead I grab the bag. Bite. Quick.

Later, I will slyly snatch a black bag and try to run down the hall to my room with it. Mom tells me no. I hesitate, but she walks towards me, so I bite it and throw it down and run.

HAHAHAHAHAH

Later, when I am stealing cinnamon, I will spill a bunch on the plastic bag and bite it again.

Just before Mom went to bed, I was sitting on the couch - in the black bag - I had stepped into the bag and sat on the couch, so that I could watch tv and keep stretching the plastic up to shred pieces off.

I like to nip pieces off objects - any, object, really, any - then spit them playfully.

Nobody else thinks this is funny, but I laugh when they tell me to stop.

sticks of butter

Duncan unwrapped four sticks of butter.

I saw them scattered on the top of his nearly new personal trampoline.

I got a dinner plate and had him put them on the plate.
