Malcolm and JJ have camp this week, science camp.
I would like to have a camp with Duncan this week during which we will review old PECs for use in visual schedules, and choice boards. Also sequences to establish routine.
All these need to be paired with signs, also.
I am attempting to log signs I'd wished I knew during any given moment with him (ie at Applebees last week or in some of the teachable moments around the house, always)

Mindless Destruction
Last night, Brett declared what is at least the 5th toilet that will have to be totally replaced in this house due to Duncan's habit of flushing objects, like a light bulb for instance, down the toilet.
Today Brett will finally fax the paperwork to repair the couch which Duncan stabbed with a knife and marked on with a pen.
More faucet handles are missing than not, again impeding the independence of his siblings.
My car antennae is missing.
We removed the faucet handles off the backyard hose because he would leave it on, this reduces our efficiency.
We have yet to replace the inner panel of the window he broke in his room.
Any lightbulb he has access to has disappeared and he has removed the sleeve casings for the bulb.
Tried to hang a clock in the living room (just an inch below the ceiling edge) but he got it down and took out the battery and chewed it.
The drains of any tub he takes a bath in are missing parts.
We had to replace the ceiling below where the upstairs tubs are because he splashes all the water out.
He has destroyed countless dollars worth of makeup and dvds.
It is impossible to keep pens and or pencils.
I had to scrape super glue off the roof of his mouth recently.
This list grows by the moment.

Minimum Security
Another Duncan escape this morning. Used to track these back to an unlocked door, but now he can climb over the backyard fence.
Found him, dirty, obviously having found a marking pen so that in addition to the dirt sticking to his mosquito sprayed body and he had scribbles on his legs and ink stained lips and teeth, standing behind the garage, silent with his left foot raised and a goat head sticker hanging from it.

Like a Gun in my Back: Handleading
He will steer me to the pantry and even if he doesn't know what he wants, he'll get a yoohoo.
Or, the spice cabinet where he wants a little sugar and a little salt.

Laugh With Me, Not At Me
Duncan manipulated a tall plastic cup with a long spoon and a puddle of Hershey's syrup at the bottom.
He scampered out of the kitchen, in just his underwear, headed to the couch.
Less than 10 minutes later, he has chocolate fingers and face; his chest and underwear streaked with the smears of where he wiped his hands and, in his belly button, a thin film of chocolate had been rubbed in, with his own sticky fingers.

The Second 10 years
This year, Duncan's 10th, we did not have a birthday party in December; instead there will be an "Un-Birthday-Party" in the summer, just about half-a-year from his true birthday.
Water. Messes. Boxing stuff. Cartoon Madness.
Quantitative:
-popped lenses out of my sunglasses and they're gone.
-popped lens out of Brett's much more expensive sunglasses - lens retrieved and restored! Yay!
-slammed colander of popcorn around last night and fell asleep on couch above the popcorn strewn living room
-didn't eat the pancakes and syrup.
- keeps wanting in the pantry, but just wants to sit and look. He asks for the hand santizer. He tries to climb the shelves where there are cook books, vinegars, bug spray and hand santizer. Gets told "no". Then, being forced to make a decision he pulls out a Yoo-hoo, which he has occasionally taken to squeezing out on the lawn, or worse, the floor.
-often seems not to know what he wants - in addition to not being to articulate what does know he wants
-impossible to keep pens in a place that they can be useful. same for pencils, they are found and the soft wood chewed away.
-Happy Father's Day to Brett who is right up there with the best dad's in the universe ever!

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back
He was up until 4 am last night and he is so destructive that he can't be up alone. He is 10 years old and this only gets harder.
He can't dress himself, or wash himself or wipe himself. He can't speak a single word and - perhaps worst of all - he has nothing, nothing, nothing to occupy himself. Any object, toy or otherwise, gets chewed in the same way. He likes the t.v. to be on, but I don't believe he understands plots and such. He doesn't have the attention span to sit still and watch, though he likes to fall asleep in front of a t.v. So, he climbs and chews and destroys.
It is so hard to get anything done. One must literally watch him. He doesn't really play or interact, so it's no fun watching him, but someone has to. I compare it to driving; you have to sit there, paying attention and even if sitting still, it is tiring. This makes it hard to get anything done.
My sister came over, when he and I were home alone, and she helped me clean the pantry out and such. Lovely. In the meantime, just in through the open doorway to the living room he managed to open a window and burst out through the screen onto the porch.
